I’m back

Filed under: diet, doctors, health, low carb, neurology, weight loss, what do I eat — by psipsina @ 7:03 pm

… but I don’t know when I’ll be able to write again - I’m very behind at work, as you may expect.  But I have, like, at least a dozen articles lined up in the back of my mind, including:

  • A report on the neurologist appointment (and also my annual physical, which was coincidentally the same day)
  • The long-promised review of Good Calories, Bad Calories
  • More “Recommended Reading” articles
  • Some thoughts on the notion of a “plant-based diet”
  • Observations on Jane Brody’s cholesterol (old news, I know - what can I say?)

So please do keep checking back - I hope to get at least one blog article out this week.

Finally, if you’ve peeped into my food journal, I’m just going to admit two things:  first, I did not keep track of everything I ate while I was away, so please don’t bother looking for entries from 11/1 though 11/4 - I can’t remember everything I ate, so I’m not journaling those days.  Second, I indulged in just a bit of stress eating.  I don’t mean that I scarfed down an entire Entemann’s coffee cake, or even one slice, for that matter.  I did avoid the major carb players - no bread, no potatoes, no pasta, and no desserts.  However, I ate a fair number of restaurant meals, and I wasn’t completely careful about things like salad dressings, sauces (I ate something called “red pepper ketchup” which was so sweet it tasted like it should’ve been an ice cream topping instead of a sauce for meat - that’s good, right? it means I’m getting sensitive to the taste of sweetness again), breading, and hidden ingredients (meatloaf, anyone?).  Oh, and I had one slice of my husband’s 10″ pizza.  Frankly, though, compared to some of my previous episodes of stress eating, this was pretty good.  On the plus side, I did have this one thing called a meat-lovers omelet - eggs, cheese, sausage, ham, and bacon - that completely defeated me.  Two-thirds of the way through, I had the waitress box up the leftovers.  The thing was supposed to come with potatoes and toast, but I ordered it without.  I can’t even imagine who the person is who could’ve finished a meat-lovers omelet AND a pile of potatoes AND a stack of toast.
